.pro Internet Registry Open to UK Professionals
More Professionals, Consumers to Benefit from Enhanced Security, Validated Identities
CHICAGO, September 22, 2004 - The newest space on the Internet, the .PRO top-level domain (TLD), will expand on October 4 to serve qualified professionals in the UK. For the first time, RegistryPro will offer the security and identity-verification benefits of the new domain to licensed doctors, lawyers and certified accountants outside of the United States and Canada.
Currently, .PRO domain names are only available to licensed doctors, lawyers and accountants in the United States and Canada, whose credentials are verified before receiving a .PRO domain. Customers who communicate online with these professionals can be assured security and confidentiality, as the .PRO domain includes security safeguards for protecting confidential client and patient information.
".pro offers qualified professionals both a distinctive and secure Internet presence for their Web sites, email traffic and confidential transactions," said Michael DelCiello, general manager, RegistryPro. "This new domain helps professionals and their organisations market their services and makes it easier for their clients to identify validated service providers and communicate sensitive information without worry."
Beginning October 4, eligible registrants in the UK will now be able to sign up for distinctive domain names such as johnsmith.law.pro for lawyers, johnsmith.med.pro for licensed doctors and johnsmith.cpa.pro for certified accountants. A professional organisation that is unable to secure its first naming choice under another TLD may now secure its identity under .PRO due to the limitation of eligible applicants.
